As a graphic designer, I was told many times that I should create a personal brand to promote myself. However, I was not sure what was a personal brand, or what was I supposed to do to create it. In this article I am going to explain to you how to do all of that and why.
A Personal Brand is a way to present yourself in a way that you want others to see yourself. For example, on Instagram, people only post about the cool parties and awesome meals they have, but never about the bad day they had at work. They are presenting themselves in a way that other only see the positive aspects of their lives. But, how do you do the same for recruiters to hire you as a graphic designer?
In one of my previous articles, I talked about why is it important to have Instagram. Today I am going to talk about how to create a personal brand that is consistent through all your social media platforms and that will be successful when looking for a job.
1. Set a BRAND NAME that is consistent for all your platforms.
It is important that people is able to find you no matter where they are looking. If your name or user name differs across your platforms, people will not be able to find you!
2. Connect your platforms.
People need to be able to go across your sites if they want more or different information about you! If your Instagram interests them, they should be able to go to your website to learn more about you.
3. Use the platforms to show your talent.
Promote yourself! Your talent and designs have to be shown to the world for them to appreciate it!! Instagram will show your designs, LinkedIn your professional mindset, Blogging your writing skills… Without you noticing it, you will have a full resume online with examples of how you can do all those things!
4. Keep it simple!
Quality over quantity! Sometimes more is less and you have to find the balance between good work and not relevant content for your brand image. I know that you have to be posting at least once a day on Instagram in order to create flux of people in your account. However, for graphic designers it is sometimes very hard to be creative every day of the week so it is okay if one day you do not have content to put up. It is better to not post anything rather than posting a bad design.
You got it!
Go promote yourself, you have all you need!
